Software

Warehouse, production, label, stock and asset software that works with the barcode printers, scanners and mobile computers we supply, plus ready-to-install apps.

ACE-UniLabel, Allmark's own label printing software for Windows, prints automotive part labels from the label file you use today. The operator fills only the values that change, on a screen made from that label.

The job

Batch number labels for every part, with lot and serial numbers

Your customer sets the label for each auto part: their part number, your supplier code, the revision, a serial number for each part and the production lot or batch number, often repeated in a QR code. These batch number labels (also called traceability labels) let a problem be traced back to the batch it came from.

When an operator retypes these values in a label designer for every run, a wrong revision or a repeated serial number is easy to miss until the customer scans the part. ACE-UniLabel keeps the layout your customer approved and asks the operator only for the values that change.

Retype in the label designerThe operator opens the label design and types each value before printing.A few labels a day in one format.Every value is retyped by hand; unless the designer is set to print only, the person printing may also change the layout, and there is often no record of who printed what.
Label designer linked to an Excel sheetThe label design reads a sheet, with counters and date offsets set up inside the design.Planned batches from a list.Someone has to keep the sheet link and the design settings working, and operators may work inside the design tool unless it offers a print-only form.
Labels printed from the ERPThe business system prints the label from its own record.Values that already live in the ERP.A new label format may need the ERP partner or your ERP team, and floor values such as a weight, a serial number or an inspector may not be in the ERP.
A script written by ITA small program fills the printer file and sends it.One fixed label, with in-house IT.Each new format usually needs IT, and an operator screen, rights or print history have to be built and kept up as well.

How ACE-UniLabel prints serial and lot number labels

Turn an existing label file (.prn) and a picture of the printed label into a reusable operator print screen. These screens were made from the example labels above.

  • Make Screen from Label read the part label's eight values and found its serial number box: numbering is on, counting from the number on the label, and you change the start on Number & Print.
  • The operator types only the values that change; fixed captions and header lines stay locked.
  • Operators print a range of serial numbers from the print screen, and a reprint carries the original number.
  • On the batch and serial label, the expiry date is proposed from the label's own period, here the made-on date plus one year. The operator confirms or changes it, and the app warns before printing if the dates break that period.

Checklist

Before you choose traceability label software

Ask these questions of any way of printing automotive part labels, ours included. At the demo we answer them on your own label.

  • Can the serial number continue from the last label printed, and count separately for each batch?
  • Does a reprint keep the original serial number?
  • Does the QR code change with the values the operator types?
  • Can you keep your customer's approved layout without redrawing it?
  • Who may change each field, and is every print recorded?

Questions buyers ask

Automotive part labels: questions

What is a batch number or lot number label?

A label that ties a part or a pack to the batch or lot it was made in, often with a serial number and a barcode or QR code, so a problem can be traced back to that batch. Printed on label stock it is often called a traceability label or traceability sticker.

Can the serial number continue from the last label we printed?

Yes. You choose the box that counts up and its next number, and whether it counts separately for each batch. Operators then print a range, and a reprint carries the original number.

What happens if the printer jams in the middle of a serial number run?

Reprint the damaged label under its original number. A range that includes numbers already printed stops before anything prints; a supervisor signs with their own username and password and gives the reason, and the reprint does not move the counter. The operator still checks the printed label, because the printer does not report each label back.

Where does the next shift start numbering?

Where this one stopped. Each label's handover shows the first and last number printed, the reprints and the next number, and the print screen shows the next number and the last number printed in its range panel. Numbering is kept on each computer.

Do we keep the label layout our customer approved?

Yes. ACE-UniLabel prints from the label file your label designer saves (.prn), so the layout stays as your customer approved it. The operator fills only the values that change.

Can the serial number print as a barcode and a QR code?

Yes. On the example part label, the serial number that counts up fills both QR codes with the supplier code, revision and production lot the operator types, so the codes and the printed text change together. On the example batch and serial label, the Part S/N the operator types fills the label's Code 128 barcode. Either way you get a serial number barcode label or a QR code label without retyping the code.

Which printers and scales does it work with?

Tested interoperability with selected OHAUS weighing-scale and GoDEX/TSC thermal-printer configurations. Compatibility is model- and configuration-dependent; confirmation is provided during solution assessment.
