Why the PC42E-T
The PC42E-T is Honeywell's replacement for the PC42T Plus: a compact 4-inch desktop printer for thermal transfer and direct thermal labels.
Order a 203 dpi printhead for shipping and carton labels at up to 6 ips, or 300 dpi for small product, asset and electronics labels at up to 5 ips. Print width is up to 108 mm.
USB, USB host and Ethernet are built in. An optional Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 module and a USB-to-serial cable cover other setups. It supports IPv4 and IPv6.
Takes ribbons up to 300 m on a 1-inch core, or 74 m on a 0.5-inch core, and switches between the two core sizes. Label rolls up to 127 mm diameter on 25.4 or 38.1 mm cores fit inside.
One feed button, an LED and an ECO button that Honeywell says cuts calibration time and label waste. 128 MB flash and 128 MB SDRAM hold fonts and formats.
Runs Honeywell DP and DPL, plus ZSim2 (ZPL II) and ESim (EPL) emulation, and XML for SAP AII and Oracle WMS. Drivers for Windows and Linux (CUPS), Honeywell device types for SAP, and BarTender support.
Honeywell states the PC42E-T works with accessories from the earlier PC42T. Optional cutter and peel-off units, and remote management with Honeywell Printer Edge.

Confirm 50 Hz support before ordering the PC42E-T, and use a stabiliser or online UPS where mains runs high. Honeywell rates its power input at 90 to 264 V AC and states no frequency; India's mains is 50 Hz.
Run the PC42E-T in an air-conditioned room, not at an open dock. Honeywell rates it for 5 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 80% humidity, non-condensing.
Choose 300 dpi when an API or medicine label has little room for its QR code. The PC42E-T prints QR Code and Data Matrix. At 300 dpi each dot is 0.085 mm, against 0.125 mm at 203 dpi, so the same data fits in a smaller code.
The PC42E-T prints both product and carton barcodes. GS1 India issues the EAN-13 product barcodes that start with 890. The printer handles EAN-13 for product labels and UCC-128 (GS1-128) for carton labels, on labels up to 108 mm print width.
Print a few Hindi, Tamil or other Indian-language labels from your own software before a full rollout. Honeywell's PC42E-T user guide says any Unicode TrueType or TrueType-based OpenType font can be downloaded to the printer. But its list of character sets does not name an Indian script. Ask us to set up your label format and print test labels on your roll.

Honeywell discontinued the PC42T Plus on 29 September 2023 and will service it until 31 December 2028. It names the PC42E-T as the replacement. The PC42E-T adds a 300 dpi option, prints at up to 6 ips instead of 4 ips, and has Ethernet built in rather than as an option. Honeywell states PC42T accessories also fit the PC42E-T.
The PC42E-T includes ZSim2 (ZPL II) and ESim (EPL) emulation alongside Honeywell's own DP and DPL languages, so many existing ZPL or EPL formats can be sent to it without rewriting. Emulation can differ in details such as fonts, so mention the printer language your software uses when you ask for a quote.
203 dpi suits shipping, carton and shelf labels and prints faster, at up to 6 ips. 300 dpi suits small labels with fine text or dense 2D codes, such as electronics, pharmacy or asset labels, at up to 5 ips. The resolution is chosen when you order, so tell us your smallest label size when you ask for a quote.
Label rolls 25.4 to 114 mm wide, up to 127 mm in diameter, on 25.4 or 38.1 mm cores. Ribbons must be coated side out, 25.4 to 110 mm wide, up to 300 m on a 1-inch core or 74 m on a 0.5-inch core. Honeywell rates the PC42E-T's power input at 90 to 264 V AC, which spans both 230 V and 240 V supply. It states no frequency, so confirm 50 Hz support before ordering. Where voltage swings are frequent, use a voltage stabiliser or online UPS.
