Why the DS3608-DPA

Reading the mark, not just the code

A direct part mark is a code made on the part itself, by hitting, burning or etching the surface, and it reads differently from a printed label. The DS3608 DPM page covers the corded Zebra DS3600 DP/DPA from the marking side: which marks Zebra lists, and which DPM settings Zebra's reference guide lists for the DP.

Matched to how the part was marked

Zebra lists dot peen, laser etch, ink mark, chemical etch, inkjet mold, cast and thermal spray marks. IUID parsing supports unique-identifier tracking.

Two DPM modes on the DP

Zebra's reference guide lists DPM Mode for the DS36X8-DP only. Mode 1 is for smaller codes on electronics and medical instruments, typically laser-etched or direct-printed on smooth surfaces. Mode 2, the default, is for larger codes on rough, grainy or machined industrial parts. Zebra recommends testing every mode on your own code.

Light that suits the mark (DP)

Zebra's guide lists DPM Illumination Control for the DP: direct white light, recommended for dot-peened codes with the part tilted 30°, and indirect red light for laser-etched codes on curved, rough, reflective or machined surfaces. A cycle setting, the default, alternates between them.

Short-range readings, DP and DPA

On Zebra's DP spec sheet, with DPM Mode off, a 10 mil Data Matrix reads from 0.0 cm to 8.6 cm and a 5 mil Code 39 from 0.5 cm to 7.1 cm. Zebra's reference guide lists a longer DPA table: 0.5 cm to 12.1 cm for a 10 mil Data Matrix and 0 cm to 14.22 cm for a 5 mil Code 39.

Cold-room corded rating

The corded model works from -30 °C to 50 °C and is sealed to IP65 and IP68. It survives multiple 3.0 m drops to concrete and 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m.

Configuration and integration help

Allmark can configure it with 123Scan, link it to your MES, ERP or traceability software, and install it and train your team on site.

For buyers in India

Using the DS3608-DPA in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the DS3608-DPA. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

Confirm the DPA India configuration before ordering

Confirm the exact DPA configuration with us before you order, and ask us whether the DPA suits your marks. Zebra's DS36X8 reference guide lists DS3608-DPA0002VZK as an 'India & Korea' direct-part-mark-for-automation configuration. The guide describes it with FIPS (a US government security standard for encryption) and a gray colour, while Zebra's product page calls the DPA black. The DPM settings in the guide are listed for the DP.

Test mark reading near hot castings and furnaces

The corded DS3608 DPM is rated to work up to 50 °C and to be stored up to 70 °C. Near a hot casting, a furnace or a sunny bench, test mark reading in your own conditions before rollout.

12 V cables need a separate Zebra supply

If your cable needs 12 V, plan for a separate power supply: Zebra lists PWR-BGA12V50W0WW for this. The DS3608-DP page gives its input range. Tell us your cable type when you ask for a quote, so the right parts are named.

More about the Zebra DS3608-DPA

Zebra's heading for the DPA model: "Unstoppable performance for direct part marks (DPM), 1D/2D wide 1D barcodes in industrial manufacturing."

As members of the Zebra 3600 Ultra-Rugged Series of scanners, the DS3608-DPA corded and DS3678-DPA cordless scanners, which Zebra calls "practically indestructible", are designed to help industrial manufacturers meet their track and trace requirements with what Zebra describes as "dependable lightning-fast capture of virtually any direct part mark", as well as 1D/2D and wide 1D barcodes common in factory automation use cases. Zebra calls the ultra-rugged design ideal for punishing environments and says the scanners offer "unparalleled ease of management". With Zebra’s Network Connect for Automation, the DS3608-DPA and DS3678-DPA connect to Industrial Ethernet networks without third party conversion equipment.

Exploring for a different use?

If your job differs from what the DS3608-DPA is built for, these Zebra models may fit it better:

  • Buyers who only read printed labels, not marks on the part itself, often look at the Zebra DS3608-SR (standard printed labels up to about 1.5 m).
  • Buyers who scan marks on large parts that cannot be brought to the bench often look at the Zebra DS3678 DPM (cordless, Bluetooth Class 1).

Questions buyers ask

DS3608-DPA FAQ

What is the price of the Zebra DS3608-DPA in India?

The DS3608-DPA price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

Which marks can the DS3608 DPM read?

Zebra lists dot peen, laser etch, ink mark, chemical etch, inkjet mold, cast and thermal spray marks, with IUID parsing. Real results depend on mark quality, surface finish and contrast, so send us a photo or a sample of your part with your quote request.

How do I choose between DPM Mode 1 and Mode 2?

Zebra's guide lists DPM Mode for the DP. It says Mode 1 suits smaller DPM codes on electronics and medical instruments, typically laser-etched or direct-printed on smooth surfaces, and Mode 2 (default) suits larger codes on industrial parts with rough, grainy or machined surfaces. Zebra recommends testing all modes on the target code before fixing the setting.

Which illumination should I use for dot peen and laser etch?

Zebra's guide lists illumination control for the DP: direct (white) illumination for dot-peened codes, with the part tilted 30°, and indirect (red) for laser-etched codes on curved, rough, reflective or machined surfaces and on cylinders. The default setting cycles between them, starting with the one that last worked.

How does the DPM page relate to the DS3608-DP page?

This page looks at the marking side and the DS3608-DP page at ordering and power. Both cover Zebra's corded DS3600 DP (Industrial Green) and DPA (black). Zebra's guide lists the DPM settings for the DP, and the two models have different decode tables, so tell us which you need.

Can a corded DPM scanner connect to industrial Ethernet?

Zebra lists EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus TCP through Network Connect for Automation, which needs a separate EA3600 adapter. The DS3608-DP page has the cabling details; send us your PLC make and protocol and we will confirm.

Can Allmark install the DS3608-DPA and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the DS3608-DPA at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
