Why the DS3608-DP
The DS3608-DP is the corded member of Zebra's DS3600 range for direct part marks (DPM). Zebra sells it as the DP in Industrial Green and the DPA in black; the choice when you order is between the two part numbers listed for India, and Zebra lists slightly different ranges for each.
Zebra lists the DP in Industrial Green and the DPA in black and describes them as otherwise identical. For India, Zebra's reference guide lists DS3608-DP20003VZK and DS3608-DPA0002VZK, so the order is about the exact part number.
Zebra lists dot peen, laser etch, ink mark, chemical etch, inkjet mold, cast and thermal spray marks, with IUID parsing, alongside the usual 1D and 2D codes such as Data Matrix, QR Code and PDF417.
On Zebra's DP spec sheet a 10 mil Data Matrix reads from 0.0 cm to 8.6 cm and a 5 mil Data Matrix from 1.0 cm to 6.3 cm, so the scanner is held close to the part. Zebra's reference guide lists a longer DPA range for a 10 mil Data Matrix, 0.5 cm to 12.1 cm. Wider printed codes such as a UPC read out to 14.7 cm (DP).
Sealed to IP65 and IP68, tested for multiple 3.0 m drops to concrete, 2.4 m drops from -30 °C to 50 °C and 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m. ESD protection is ±20 kV air discharge.
It runs from the host at 4.5-5.5 V DC and draws 360 mA while scanning. USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge are standard; EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus TCP come through Zebra's Network Connect for Automation.

Confirm the exact configuration with us before ordering, because Zebra lists two corded direct-part-mark codes for India. Its DS36X8 reference guide marks DS3608-DP20003VZK and DS3608-DPA0002VZK as 'India & Korea'. The guide's descriptions also mention direct illumination and FIPS (a US government security standard for encryption).
The corded scanner normally takes power from the host over USB or RS232. Cables Zebra marks '12V' are the exception and need a separate supply such as PWR-BGA12V50W0WW, rated for 100-240 V AC input, which covers India's 230 V mains.
Keep the DS3608-DP off hot castings and window ledges. Zebra rates it to work up to 50 °C and to be stored up to 70 °C.
