Why the DS3608-HP

Barcodes, photos and paperwork from one corded scanner

The DS3608-HP is the corded high-performance model of Zebra's DS3600 ultra-rugged family. Here 'HP' means High Performance, a mid-range imager that adds photo, signature, OCR and document capture; it is not a 'high power' scanner. Zebra's product page lists corded and cordless versions of the HP, and this page covers the corded one.

Captures more than barcodes

Zebra describes the HP as reading 1D/2D codes while also capturing photos, signatures, OCR data and documents. Its OCR list is OCR-A/B, MICR-E13B and US currency serial numbers, with IUID parsing for part marks.

Document capture around a barcode

Zebra's Intelligent Document Capture firmware, which the reference guide says applies to the HP configuration only, has three modes. Anchored uses a decoded barcode to locate the capture area, Free-Form uses the printed border or page edge, and Linked needs both. Up to eight anchor barcode types can be enabled.

A reach that suits a workstation

Typical ranges on Zebra's sheet: a 5 mil Code 128 from 15.2 cm to 35.6 cm, a 20 mil one from 12.7 cm to 114.3 cm, a 40 mil one from 7.1 cm to 203.2 cm, and a 10 mil Data Matrix from 15.2 cm to 38.1 cm. It starts further out than the HD, so it is not the close-up choice for tiny codes.

Built for dock and plant desks

The scanner is sealed to IP65 and IP68 and survives multiple 3.0 m drops to concrete at room temperature, or 2.4 m drops across -30 °C to 50 °C. Zebra also rates it for 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m and ±25 kV air-discharge ESD.

Powered from the host

No battery to charge: it takes 4.5-5.5 V DC from the host and draws 360 mA typical in operation and 100 mA on standby. USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge are listed, and Zebra Network Connect adds EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus TCP through a separate EA3600 adapter.

Connected to your systems

Allmark can link the scanner to your ERP, billing or warehouse software, including our own warehouse management system, and installs it and trains your staff on site.

Used in

  • Warehouses and 3PL dispatch desks
  • Manufacturing and work-in-process tracking
  • Proof-of-delivery and courier hubs
  • Hospital and pharmacy stores
  • Retail back-office and stockrooms

For buyers in India

Using the DS3608-HP in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the DS3608-HP. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

One desk scanner for e-invoice QR and page images

One corded DS3608-HP at a dispatch desk reads the QR on GST e-invoices and e-way bills and also captures the printed page as an image, so it serves both jobs. Zebra lists QR Code among its symbologies.

Corded HP works to -30 °C at freezer-store desks

Choose the corded DS3608-HP for freezer-store desks: Zebra rates it down to -30 °C, and the cordless version to -20 °C. Confirm the cable and desk fittings for your own cold room.

Corded HP: confirm the part number for India

Ask us to confirm the corded HP part number before ordering, because no India & Korea corded HP appears in Zebra's list. Zebra's DS36X8 guide marks DS3678-HP2F003VZK as the 'India & Korea' cordless HP. Its corded HP codes are DS3608-HP20003VZWW (worldwide) and a China-only code.

Runs on host 5 V; a 12 V supply where needed

A corded scanner normally runs from the host's 5 V, with no extra supply. Where a 12 V external supply is needed, Zebra lists the PWR-BGA12V50W0WW. Tell us your mains voltage and cable type when you ask for a quote.

Exploring for a different use?

If your job differs from what the DS3608-HP is built for, these Zebra models may fit it better:

  • Buyers who only scan barcodes and do not need photos, signatures, OCR or documents, often look at the Zebra DS3608-SR (reads small codes closer in: 5 mil Code 128 from 3.3 cm).
  • Buyers who capture data on the move rather than at a station often look at the Zebra DS3678-HP (cordless, Bluetooth Class 1, with the same photo, OCR and document capture).

Questions buyers ask

DS3608-HP FAQ

What is the price of the Zebra DS3608-HP in India?

The DS3608-HP price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

What does HP mean on the DS3608-HP?

Zebra calls it the high-performance version of the DS3600. It is a mid-range imager with a 1,280 × 960 sensor that reads 1D and 2D codes and also captures photos, signatures, OCR text and documents. It is not a high-power scanner. Zebra's spec sheet gives a 20 mil Code 128 range of 12.7 cm to 114.3 cm.

Does Zebra still make a corded HP?

Zebra's DS3600-HP product page and spec sheet list both corded and cordless versions, with a separate corded column. Zebra's HP product page, however, features the cordless DS3678-HP, and Zebra's India & Korea list names only the cordless code. We confirm corded availability and the part number with the distributor before quoting.

DS3608-HP or DS3608-HD for small labels?

Choose the HD for very small codes: Zebra lists a 3 mil Code 128 from 5.1 cm to 7.6 cm. The HP's smallest listed code is a 5 mil Code 128, read from 15.2 cm to 35.6 cm. Pick the HP when the same station also needs OCR, photos or documents, or reads labels further out, up to 203.2 cm on a 40 mil code.

Which IP rating and tumble rating apply?

Zebra's current DS3600-HP spec sheet, dated 08/12/2026, gives IP65 and IP68 and 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m, which is what this page uses. Zebra rates 2.4 m drops across the full -30 °C to 50 °C range and states 3.0 m at room temperature.

Can the DS3608-HP feed data to a PLC?

Zebra lists EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP as industrial Ethernet host options through Zebra Network Connect, which uses a separate EA3600 adapter. Tell us your PLC make and protocol and we will specify the parts together.

Can Allmark install the DS3608-HP and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the DS3608-HP at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
