Why the DS3678-SR
The DS3678-SR is the cordless standard-range model in Zebra's 3600 ultra-rugged family; the DS3608-SR is the corded version. The SR and the high-density DS3678-HD share the ultra-rugged housing, the IP65 cradle, Label Parse+ and Multi-Code Data Formatting described in the overview; the HD reads codes down to 3 mil, while the SR's smallest published code is a 5 mil Code 128. Zebra stopped selling the extended-range DS3678-ER in APAC, which includes India, on 30 June 2025 and names the DS3600-XR as its replacement.
A 1280 × 800 sensor with Zebra's PRZM imaging reads a 5 mil Code 128 from 3.3 cm and a 40 mil Code 128 up to 152.4 cm. Zebra designs PRZM for dirty, damaged, poorly printed and shrink-wrapped codes.
Zebra rates the DS3678-SR for multiple 3.0 m drops to concrete at room temperature, 2.4 m drops from -20 °C to 50 °C and 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m. The scanner is sealed to IP65 and IP68, and the FLB3678 cradle to IP65, with charging contacts rated for 250,000 insertions.
The 3,100 mAh PowerPrecision+ Li-ion battery is rated for more than 100,000 scans per full charge and reports its charge cycles and state of health. A charge gauge and a Bluetooth status LED sit on the scanner.
Bluetooth 4.0 LE Class 1 gives a minimum 100 m line-of-sight range. Virtual Tether alerts when the scanner is carried out of range or left out of its cradle, and AutoConfig stores settings in the cradle, so a scanner moved from the forklift to the packing desk picks up that desk's settings.
Besides 1D and 2D codes, it reads Digimarc digital watermarks and IUID codes, and separates the IUID fields as your application requires.
Host interfaces are USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge. Zebra also lists EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP through its Network Connect software. Configure with 123Scan and manage fleets with Scanner Management Service.

Mount the STB3678 or FLB3678 cradle in an office or covered bay rather than on an open dock. The DS3678-SR scans from -20 °C to 50 °C, but Zebra's reference guide says its battery charges only from 0 °C to 40 °C, ideally 5 °C to 35 °C. A full charge takes up to 3 hours on external power and up to 10 hours on USB power.
For freezers colder than -20 °C, choose the corded DS3608-SR, rated to -30 °C; the cordless DS3678-SR is rated only down to -20 °C. To reduce condensation on the scan window when moving in and out of freezers, Zebra recommends its heated scanner holder.
The DS3678-SR reads QR Code, Data Matrix and GS1-128, including the QR codes on bulk-drug (API) labels, and Label Parse+ splits GS1 data into fields. Consumer packs barcoded through GS1 India carry EAN-13 numbers starting with 890.
Order with Zebra's 'India & Korea' codes from its DS36X8 reference guide: DS3678-SR0F003VZK (cordless; Zebra lists it with driver's licence parsing and FIPS) and DS3608-SR00003VZK (corded). Where the host cannot power the cradle, Zebra's 12 V supply PWR-BGA12V50W0WW is rated for 100-240 V AC input. That covers India's 230 V mains.

No. Zebra stopped selling the DS3608-ER and DS3678-ER in APAC, which includes India, on 30 June 2025, and names the DS3600-XR (DS3678-XR cordless) as the replacement. Zebra support for the ER models continues until October 2030. The DS3678-SR on this page reads a 40 mil Code 128 up to 152.4 cm and a 20 mil code up to 71.1 cm; for labels on high racks, the longer-range model is the DS3678-XR, so tell us your rack heights when you ask for a quote.
The SR reads standard labels from near contact to about 1.5 m: a 40 mil Code 128 up to 152.4 cm. The HD has a 1280 × 960 sensor for very small, dense codes, reading a 3 mil Code 128 at 5.1 to 7.6 cm, as used on electronic components. Both share the same rugged housing, battery and Bluetooth radio, so choose by the smallest and the farthest code you scan.
Yes, within its limits. The cordless DS3678-SR works down to -20 °C and the corded DS3608-SR down to -30 °C, so use the corded model in freezers between -20 °C and -30 °C; blast freezers colder than -30 °C are outside both ratings. The battery charges only between 0 °C and 40 °C, so keep the cradle outside the cold room. Zebra recommends a heated scanner holder to reduce condensation when moving in and out of freezers.
Zebra lists EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP among its host interfaces, through Zebra's Network Connect for Automation. USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge are also supported. The spec sheet does not name the cradle or cable for each network, so tell us your PLC or line controller when you ask for a quote.
The DS3678 uses a Class 1 Bluetooth 4.0 radio with a minimum line-of-sight range of 100 m in open air; racking and walls reduce it. Virtual Tether makes the scanner and cradle alert when the scanner leaves that range or stays out of the cradle too long, which helps stop scanners being left on pallets.
