Why the TC53e / TC58e
The TC53e and TC58e are Zebra's TC5 Series rugged touch mobile computers. Zebra describes the TC53e as an extension of the TC53 and lists it as replacing the TC52, TC52x and TC52ax; the TC58e replaces the TC57 and TC57x. Zebra plans four years of sale and a further four years of support for the e-models.
Zebra positions the TC53e for staff inside the store, warehouse or office on Wi-Fi 6E, and the TC58e for routes and field service, with 5G, one nano SIM and one eSIM, and dual-band GNSS.
The SE4720 reads a 13 mil UPC-A from 4.1 cm to 63.2 cm; the SE55 with IntelliFocus reads it up to 180 cm and a 100 mil Code 39 label up to 14 m, in Zebra's decode tables. The TC58e can also take the SE4770, which Zebra says reads even in bright sunlight.
Removable PowerPrecision+ batteries of 4,680 mAh or 7,000 mAh, with Warm Swap and fast charging. The BLE battery works with Zebra's Device Tracker to help find a misplaced device.
Zebra rates the TC53e/TC58e for 2.4 m drops to concrete in the boot and 1.8 m to tile over concrete without it, 1,000 tumbles, and IP65 and IP68 sealing. It works from -20 °C to 50 °C.
Zebra lists Android 13, 14 and 15 as available now and Android 18 as the final version, with eight years of LifeGuard and Zebra OneCare support from the date the product first went on sale.
FIPS 140-2 validated and Common Criteria certified, with Secure Boot and Verified Boot, a front NFC tap point for contactless payment, and a Secure Element on selected configurations.

Zebra positions the TC53e for staff who work indoors on Wi-Fi 6E, and the TC58e for staff outdoors, with 5G, a nano SIM plus an eSIM, and GNSS for location. The TC58e can also take the SE4770 scan engine, which Zebra rates for bright sunlight. Both share batteries, cradles and accessories.
Zebra calls the TC53e an extension of the TC53. In Zebra's spec sheets the TC53e uses a Qualcomm 4490 processor (the TC53 a 6490), weighs 282 g against 293 g, has Bluetooth 5.3, FIPS validation as standard and a 2.4 m boot drop rating, and its final Android version is 18 against 16.
