Why the Granit 1990iSR
The Granit 1990iSR (Granit XP 1990iSR on Honeywell's datasheet) is the corded, standard-range model of Honeywell's Granit XP 199Xi family. Honeywell names it as the replacement for several older industrial scanners, among them the 3800i, the 3820 and the SR61 Gen2, and it is the corded model to look at when a Granit 1910i needs replacing.
Honeywell tests it to 3 m drops (MIL-STD-810G), 20 drops from 2.4 m, 50 drops from 2 m across -30 °C to 50 °C and 7,000 tumbles at 1 m. The scan window is small and deeply recessed, so a fall onto concrete is less likely to scratch or crack it.
A 1280 × 800 area imager with motion tolerance up to 4,500 mm/s reads damaged, smudged and low-contrast 1D and 2D labels (down to a 20% reflectance difference), so operators do not stop to key in numbers by hand.
The scanner takes its power through the cable: 2.35 W (470 mA at 5 V DC) while scanning. There is no battery to wear out, no charging base to find a place for, and nothing to swap in the middle of a shift.
Rated from -30 °C to 50 °C when fitted with Honeywell's industrial-grade cable, which is ordered separately. Sealed to IP65 and IP67 against dust and water.

For cold stores and freezers, order Honeywell's industrial-grade cable with the 1990iSR; with a standard cable the low-temperature rating does not apply. With that cable it is rated down to -30 °C, and Honeywell also lists scanner heaters for freezer work. Let the scanner warm up before it goes back into humid air outside.
In summer, keep the 1990iSR out of direct sun and off hot machine covers. Honeywell rates it to work up to 50 °C.
On a corded Granit like the 1990iSR, push the cable in fully and lock it with the plate, as Honeywell's quick start guide says. The cable joint is part of the seal. Under IEC 60529, IP65 covers water jets from any direction and IP67 covers immersion up to 1 m for 30 minutes. For monsoon docks and wash-down floors, Honeywell sells replacement cable O-rings for IP65/IP67 sealing.

Honeywell lists the Granit 191Xi family as end of life since June 2021 and points to the Granit XP 199Xi family. The 1990iSR is the corded standard-range model in that family, and the 1991iSR is the cordless one. Both share the Granit housing, the 1280 × 800 imager and the same read ranges. The corded 1990iSR suits a fixed station: no battery or base to manage, 85 g lighter (320 g against 405 g), and rated down to -30 °C with the industrial-grade cable, against -20 °C for the cordless model. Yes, with the right cable. Honeywell rates the 1990iSR from -30 °C to 50 °C only with its industrial-grade cable, which is ordered separately, and lists scanner heaters for freezer environments. A cold scanner mists over when it is carried into warm, humid air, so give it time to warm up before scanning outside the cold room.
The scanner supports all three; the cable decides which one you get. Current PCs connect over USB, set up as a keyboard (the barcode is typed into the open field) or as a serial COM port, which needs Honeywell's driver on Windows. Older machines and some PLCs take RS-232. Honeywell notes that a power supply is ordered separately where the connection needs one.
It is a standard-range scanner for arm's-length work. In Honeywell's typical tests a 13 mil UPC reads from contact to 504 mm, a 20 mil Code 39 to 837 mm and a 20 mil QR code from 33 mm to 475 mm.
