The ZD230 prints at up to 152 mm/s (6 ips); the ZD220 tops out at 102 mm/s (4 ips).

Why the ZD230
The ZD230 is the faster model in Zebra's ZD200 Series, next to the ZD220 we already list. Zebra names the ZD200 Series as the successor to the GC420, and lists the ZD220 among the GT800 replacements. Two versions are available in India: the standard ZD230, with factory network options, and the ZD230TA (thermal transfer) and ZD230DA (direct thermal), USB-only versions with less memory and an optional 300 dpi printhead.
The ZD230 prints at up to 152 mm/s (6 ips); the ZD220 tops out at 102 mm/s (4 ips).
USB 2.0 is standard. Zebra builds the ZD230 at the factory with Ethernet 10/100, Bluetooth 4.1, or 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.1, so decide on the connection before you place the order. The ZD230TA and ZD230DA connect over USB only, with an optional USB-to-serial cable.
It accepts ZPL II and EPL2, plus EPL1 line mode, so formats written for older Zebra desktops such as the GC420 usually need no rework. Test one label first.
The OpenACCESS lid opens for media changes. A single status light and a single feed/pause button cover daily use, and a feed slot takes fan-fold labels.
The ZD230t takes 300 m ribbons (1:4 media-to-ribbon) or 74 m ribbons (1:1), from 33.8 mm to 109.2 mm wide. Longer ribbons mean fewer changes.
Rolls up to 127 mm outside diameter on 12.7 mm or 25.4 mm cores, media 25.4-112 mm wide. It prints labels, tags, receipt paper and Z-Band wristbands, and Zebra offers a factory-fitted peeler or cutter.

For buyers in India
These are the points buyers in India ask us about the ZD230. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
The ZD230 takes a 4 × 6 inch (101.6 × 152.4 mm) courier label: it prints up to 104 mm wide on media up to 112 mm. Its speed is programmable: one 152.4 mm label takes about 1.5 s at 102 mm/s (4 ips) and about 1.0 s at 152 mm/s (6 ips). The direct thermal model needs no ribbon, so a dispatch desk stocks only labels.
On the 203 dpi ZD230, set EAN-13 bars to 3 dots wide; 2-dot bars print the code too small. GS1 India issues the 890-prefix EAN-13 numbers used on Indian retail goods.
The ZD230 prints at 8 dots per mm. For retail packs, ask us to set up the MRP and net-quantity lines in your label format and print test labels on your roll.
For product names in Hindi, Tamil or another Indian language, plan for label software that sends that text to the ZD230 as an image, and approve a printed proof before rollout. Zebra lists the ZD230 as Unicode compliant for multi-language printing, with native OpenType font support and 16 bitmap and two scalable ZPL fonts on board. But Zebra lists no Indian-script font for it, and its international font packs cover Arabic, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Ask us to set up your label format and print test labels on your roll.
Keep the ZD230 out of hot, unventilated stockrooms in summer, and use a UPS or stabiliser where mains runs above 240 V. Zebra rates it to run from 4.4 °C to 41 °C, and its external supply takes 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz and gives the printer 24 VDC.

Questions buyers ask
The ZD230 price depends on the resolution you choose (203 or 300 dpi), the options you add and the quantity. We can quote the labels and ribbon with it. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.
Zebra's support pages show the GC420 last sold in April 2020 and its support ended on 30 June 2023; Zebra names the ZD200 Series (ZD220 and ZD230) as its successor. For the GT800, Zebra lists the ZD220, ZD421 and ZD621. For the same 4-inch, 203 dpi labels at up to 6 ips, we suggest the ZD230 as the closest match. Include a sample label when you ask for a quote.
Choose the standard ZD230 if the printer must join your network: Zebra builds it with Ethernet, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and it has 128 MB of Flash for stored formats and fonts. The ZD230TA (thermal transfer) and ZD230DA (direct thermal) are USB-only with 8 MB of Flash, but offer a 300 dpi printhead for small text and dense codes. Both print 104 mm wide at up to 152 mm/s at 203 dpi.
Both are 4-inch, 203 dpi printers with 128 MB Flash. The ZD220 prints at up to 102 mm/s (4 ips) over USB only. The ZD230 prints at up to 152 mm/s (6 ips) and can be ordered with Ethernet, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Choose the ZD230 if several people share the printer or if it must sit on the network.
Zebra lists the ZD230's Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth options as factory-installed, so plan the connection before you order. If you may need a network later and want to add it in the field, look at the ZD421, where Zebra offers Ethernet, Wi-Fi and serial as field-installable modules. The ZD230TA and ZD230DA have no network option.
Yes. Zebra lists continuous direct thermal receipt paper and Z-Band 4000 wristband stock among the ZD230's media, along with die-cut and continuous labels and tags. Media can be 25.4 mm to 112 mm wide, on rolls up to 127 mm across or fan-folded. Give the label size and material when you ask for a quote.
Yes. The ZD230 prints at 8 dots per mm, and it prints EAN-13 and QR Code on the same label, on labels 25.4 mm to 112 mm wide. Tell us your pack size and the declarations you print, and we set up your label format and print test labels on your roll.
Yes. We install the ZD230 at your site, connect it so your ERP, warehouse or billing software prints to it (our own warehouse management system included) and train the people who use it. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
Send your label size, how many labels you print a day and the software you print from; we reply with a written quotation.
