Why the ZD621
The ZD621 is the 4-inch model in Zebra's ZD600 Series, alongside the 2-inch ZD611. It runs Link-OS and comes in direct thermal and thermal transfer versions, with a healthcare model (ZD621-HC), an RFID model (ZD621R) and a linerless option.
Up to 203 mm/s (8 ips) at 203 dpi and 152 mm/s (6 ips) at 300 dpi. Ethernet 10/100, RS-232 serial, USB 2.0 and USB Host are standard, so no add-on module is needed to put it on a wired network or a serial host.
Zebra offers a dual-radio Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with Bluetooth 5.3 module, factory fitted or field installable, and a Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) with Bluetooth 4.2 module. Bluetooth Low Energy for the setup app is built in.
An optional 4.3-inch colour touch LCD (480 × 272) with 3 buttons lets staff change settings without a PC. It is standard on the healthcare models; the other models have 5 status icons and 3 buttons.
It runs ZPL II and EPL 2, the languages of GX420, ZD500 and ZD620 fleets, plus XML, ZBI and PDF Direct. EPL1 line mode is available on the 203 dpi direct thermal model.
The ZD621R encodes UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 tags with Zebra's RE40 encoder, at a minimum tag pitch of 16 mm.
Rolls up to 127 mm outside diameter on 12.7 mm or 25.4 mm cores (38.1, 50.8 and 76.2 mm with adapters). Labels, tags, receipt paper, wristbands and linerless labels, with a field-fit peeler or cutter.

The ZD621 runs on India's 50 Hz single-phase supply without a converter, but where the voltage swings often, run it through a stabiliser or UPS. Its external power supply is auto-detecting, rated 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz.
From March to June, keep the ZD621 in an air-conditioned room. Zebra rates it to operate from 4.4 °C to 41 °C and to be stored up to 60 °C.
In humid coastal cities such as Chennai and Mumbai, let the ZD621 and its label rolls reach room temperature before printing. The risk is condensation: a printer or label roll moved from an air-conditioned store into a humid loading dock can collect moisture. Operating humidity is rated 10-90% and storage 5-95%, both non-condensing.
At 203 mm/s (8 ips), the ZD621 needs about 0.75 seconds of print time for each 4 × 6 inch courier label. So 100 courier labels take about 75 seconds of print time. The label (101.6 × 152.4 mm) fits the 104 mm print width at 203 dpi.
The ZD621 prints MRP and net-quantity text with GS1 India barcodes; for packs that face rough handling, use the thermal transfer model with a ribbon. It prints EAN-13 (GS1 India numbers start with 890), UCC/EAN-128 (GS1-128), GS1 DataBar, Data Matrix and QR Code. Ask us to set up your label format and print test labels on your roll.
We supply the 300 dpi ZD621 to electronics manufacturing services (EMS) customers. It suits serial-number, product ID and component labels at a desk: it prints 12 dots per mm, takes labels from 6.4 mm long (12.7 mm with the peeler or cutter) and media from 15 mm wide, and prints Data Matrix codes. For labels shorter than that, or PCB labels on a production line, choose the 600 dpi ZT610: it prints labels as short as 3 mm in rewind or tear-off mode, and its Micro Label Printer version peels labels down to 6 mm (Zebra's US tech specs). Yes. Zebra's support pages show that support for the ZD620, ZD500 and GX420/GX430 ended on 28 February 2025 in Asia-Pacific, and Zebra names the ZD621 as their successor. It keeps the 4-inch width and Zebra's ZPL and EPL languages, so most label formats carry over. Include one of your current labels when you ask for a quote.
Both are 4-inch Zebra desktops at 203 or 300 dpi. The ZD621 prints at up to 203 mm/s (8 ips) against 152 mm/s (6 ips), and has Ethernet and RS-232 serial built in; on the ZD421 these are add-on modules. The ZD621 also offers a colour touch display and an RFID model. The ZD421 suits a counter that prints a moderate number of labels.
Yes. A 4 × 6 inch label is about 102 mm wide and 152 mm long. The direct thermal ZD621 takes media from 15 mm to 108 mm wide (118 mm on the thermal transfer model), prints up to 104 mm wide at 203 dpi and handles labels up to 991 mm long. Direct thermal needs no ribbon, and rolls up to 127 mm outside diameter fit inside the printer.
Yes. The ZD621R adds Zebra's RE40 UHF RFID encoder for EPC Gen 2 V2.1 tags, with a minimum tag pitch of 16 mm. On the ZD621R the 4.3-inch colour touch display is optional.
