Why the ZD611
The ZD611 is the 2-inch model in Zebra's ZD600 Series, alongside the 4-inch ZD621. Zebra's ZD600 Series page now lists only these two models (with RFID and healthcare versions) and no ZD610, so we suggest the ZD611 to anyone replacing a 2-inch ZD610.
Up to 203 mm/s (8 ips) at 203 dpi and 152 mm/s (6 ips) at 300 dpi. The ZD411 tops out at 152 mm/s and 102 mm/s.
Ethernet, USB 2.0 and USB Host come built in, with Bluetooth Low Energy for setup. Dual-radio Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.3 or Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth 4.2, and RS-232 serial, are options.
Zebra lists a 4.3-inch colour touch LCD as standard on the thermal transfer, RFID and healthcare models; other models have 5 status icons and 3 buttons. Staff can change settings without a PC.
The direct thermal linerless model prints on Zebra ZeroLiner labels, with a cutter or tear bar, so there is no backing paper to throw away.
The ZD611R has Zebra's RE40 reader/encoder for UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 (RAIN RFID) tags at a minimum tag pitch of 16 mm. The ZD611-HC has a white, disinfectant-ready housing and an IEC 60601-1 certified power supply.
The peeler (with label-present sensor) and cutter can be fitted in the field, and Zebra lists an optional 2,750 mAh battery for use away from a socket.

On the 203 dpi ZD611 at 8 ips, a run of 200 batch, expiry or price stickers needs under a minute of print time. At 203 mm/s (8 ips), a 50 mm label with a 3 mm gap passes the printhead in about 0.26 s. At 300 dpi the top speed is 152 mm/s, about 0.35 s a label.
Name India as the country of use when you ask for a ZD611R and its labels: both the RFID labels and the printer's encoder must work in India's 865-868 MHz UHF RFID band. Zebra's ZD611R spec sheet lists UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 and RAIN RFID but gives no frequency range.
With Ethernet built in, the ZD611-HC lets admission desks and wards print wristbands from the hospital system without a separate network module.
In a hot spell, keep the ZD611 in an air-conditioned spot, and on high-voltage circuits power it from a stabiliser or online UPS. It is rated for 4.4 °C to 41 °C at 10% to 90% humidity, non-condensing, and its auto-detecting supply takes 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.

For the 4-inch ZD620, Zebra names the ZD621, which has its own page on our site. For the 2-inch ZD610 Zebra has published no replacement notice, but Zebra's ZD600 Series now lists only the ZD611 and ZD621, so the ZD611 is our suggestion. It keeps the 2-inch width and Zebra's ZPL and EPL languages. Include a sample label when you ask for a quote.
At 203 dpi the ZD611 prints at up to 203 mm/s (8 ips) against the ZD411's 152 mm/s (6 ips), and at 300 dpi 152 mm/s against 102 mm/s. Ethernet is built in, and Zebra offers touch-display, linerless and RFID versions that the ZD411 range does not have. Both have a healthcare model. For one counter printing modest volumes over USB, the ZD411 is enough.
Yes, in the ZD611R version. Zebra lists a UHF RFID reader/encoder that supports EPC Gen 2 V2.1 tags, and the thermal transfer and RFID models come with the 4.3-inch colour touch display. RFID labels must match the encoder, so tell us the tag type or send a sample label when you ask for a quote.
Linerless labels have no backing paper, so there is no liner to throw away. The ZD611 linerless model prints direct thermal on Zebra ZeroLiner labels and separates them with a cutter or tear bar. It suits food, pharmacy and retail counters that print many short labels.
