Why the LI2208

A 1D scanner for counters and stock rooms that also reads codes on screens

The LI2208 is Zebra's corded general-purpose linear imager; Zebra built it on its LS2208 laser scanner, with the same ergonomics. It reads 1D barcodes on printed labels and on phone, tablet and computer screens, out to 78.7 cm for a 13 mil UPC. It does not read QR codes or other 2D codes: for those, look at the DS2208.

Reads 1D codes on paper and on screens

Zebra lists 1D barcodes printed on paper labels and shown on the screen of a mobile phone, tablet or computer, such as loyalty cards and mobile coupons. It reads UPC/EAN, Code 128 including GS1-128, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, GS1 DataBar and more.

Longer reach for everyday labels

Zebra's sheet lists a 13 mil UPC from 2.5 cm to 78.7 cm and a 26 mil 200% UPC-A from 7.6 cm to 140 cm. High-density codes down to 3 mil are read too, with a 4 mil Code 39 from 10.2 cm to 25.4 cm.

Plug in and scan

Zebra's auto-host detect cables recognise a USB, RS232, keyboard wedge or IBM RS485 host when plugged in, and the scanner holds over 90 international keyboard layouts. Zebra's 123Scan and Scanner Management Service handle settings and firmware.

Made for daily drops at the counter

Zebra rates the LI2208 for over 100 drops from 1.5 m at room temperature, survival of 1.8 m drops to concrete, 1,000 tumble cycles in a 0.5 m tumbler and IP42 sealing. A single circuit board removes the connectors and ribbon cables that fail most often.

Handheld or hands-free

In the optional Gooseneck Intellistand the LI2208 switches to hands-free scanning by itself and back to handheld when lifted out. At 547 scans per second and 63.5 cm per second motion tolerance, codes do not need to be held still.

For buyers in India

Using the LI2208 in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the LI2208. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

For UPI or GST e-invoice QR codes, choose the DS2208

The LI2208 reads 1D barcodes only, so it cannot read a UPI QR code or the QR code on a GST e-invoice. If your counter needs those, the DS2208 reads QR codes on paper and on phone screens.

Reads the EAN-13 barcodes on retail packs

UPC/EAN decoding covers EAN-13 and EAN-8, and Zebra rates a 13 mil UPC from 2.5 cm to 78.7 cm. Cashiers can read pack barcodes held at a normal distance from the counter.

Runs from the billing PC's USB port

Zebra lists host power or an external supply, at 5 V DC ±10% and under 165 mA while scanning. Its USB default is a USB keyboard (HID), so billing software that accepts typed input takes the scans without a driver.

Exploring for a different use?

If your job differs from what the LI2208 is built for, these Zebra models may fit it better:

  • Buyers who read UPI QR codes, GST e-invoice QR codes or other 2D codes, often look at the Zebra DS2208 (corded 1D/2D area imager, reads phone screens).
  • Buyers who scan without a cable, for bulky items or a larger counter, often look at the Zebra LI4278 (cordless 1D linear imager, Bluetooth).
  • Buyers who only read printed 1D barcodes and already run LS2208 scanners often look at the Zebra LS2208 (corded single-line laser scanner).

Questions buyers ask

LI2208 FAQ

What is the price of the Zebra LI2208 in India?

The LI2208 price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

LI2208 or LS2208: what is the difference?

Both are corded Zebra 1D scanners in the same body. The LI2208 is a linear imager: Zebra lists 1D codes on phone and computer screens, a 13 mil UPC out to 78.7 cm, 547 scans per second and IP42. The LS2208 is a single-line laser: a 13 mil UPC out to 63.8 cm, 100 scans per second and IP30.

Can the LI2208 read QR codes or UPI payment codes?

No. It reads 1D barcodes only, so it cannot read QR codes, including UPI and GST e-invoice QR codes, or other 2D codes. For those, choose the DS2208, which reads 1D and 2D codes on paper and on phone screens.

Will the LI2208 work with our billing software?

Usually yes, without a driver. Its USB default is a USB keyboard (HID), so software that accepts typed input takes the scan, and Zebra lists over 90 international keyboard layouts. RS232 and IBM RS485 are available for older POS terminals, and Zebra's Scanner SDK covers direct integration.

Can it scan hands-free at the counter?

Yes, with the optional Gooseneck Intellistand. The scanner switches to hands-free mode when placed in the stand and back to handheld when lifted out, with no settings to change.

Is the LI2208 still a current Zebra model?

Yes. On 20 October 2026 Zebra's Asia Pacific site still listed the LI2208 on its product pages, and its support page showed no end-of-sale notice or named replacement.

Can Allmark install the LI2208 and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the LI2208 at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
