Why the PM45
The PM45 is Honeywell's 4-inch mid-range industrial label printer. It is built for factories, packing halls and distribution centres where a printer runs shift after shift and a stopped printer holds up the line. Honeywell also lists the PM45c, a compact version of the same printer with a lower body, a smaller 229 m ribbon and one USB host port.
Honeywell offers 203, 300, 406 and 600 dpi printheads. At 203 dpi it prints up to 14 ips (350 mm/s); at 300 dpi up to 12 ips, at 406 dpi up to 10 ips and at 600 dpi up to 6 ips. Print registration is up to ±0.5 mm, close enough for small electronics and pharma labels.
Ribbon rolls up to 450 m on a 1-inch core, coated side in or out, and label rolls up to 213 mm in diameter on 38 to 76 mm cores. Longer rolls mean fewer stops to change rolls during a shift.
Ethernet, USB device, USB host and RS-232 are standard. Field-installable boards add a parallel port, an industrial interface (eight digital in/out, four relays, an RS-232/422/485 port) or an applicator interface for print-and-apply machines. Wi-Fi with Bluetooth and an LTE modem are also listed.
Honeywell's Fingerprint, Direct Protocol and IPL, Datamax DPL and ZSim2 (ZPL-II) emulation are on board, with XML for SAP AII and Oracle WMS, PDF and C# apps. Drivers cover Windows, Linux (CUPS) and SAP, and Honeywell lists BarTender, NiceLabel and Teklynx LabelView as compatible.
Honeywell's Smart Parse tool lets you move fields, resize a barcode or change a font on the printer without changing the host system. Smart printing apps written in C# can print without a PC, and Printer Edge, PrintSet 5 and the Print Set MC phone app handle setup.
An all-metal print mechanism, an easy printhead change and a tool-free platen roller replacement keep repairs short. Honeywell sells a printhead for each resolution and a platen roller kit, so a line that cannot stop can keep spares on the shelf.

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the PM45. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
The PM45's LTE modem covers the Jio, Airtel and Vi bands, but check India availability first. Honeywell lists a CAT4 LTE modem with one micro-SIM slot, on LTE FDD bands including 1, 3, 5 and 8 and TDD bands 38 to 41. Jio runs 4G on bands 3, 5 and 40, Airtel on 1, 3, 8 and 40, and Vi on 1, 3, 8, 40 and 41. There is no 5G. Ask us whether the LTE version is offered for India before you plan a site around it.
Before you order RFID labels, confirm with us that the PM45 RFID kit is set for India's 865-868 MHz band. Honeywell's RFID kit is set to local radio rules, and its datasheet asks buyers to check availability by region.
Put the PM45 on a stabiliser or online UPS sized for Honeywell's 270 W peak (9.6 W standby), especially where the mains voltage runs high. The power supply is rated 100 to 240 V AC, 50 to 60 Hz, so India's 50 Hz supply at 230 V or 240 V is covered.
Run the PM45 away from wash-down areas and open dock doors. Honeywell rates it for 5 °C to 40 °C in thermal transfer mode and 20% to 85% humidity, non-condensing.
On small API labels, a higher-dpi PM45 fits the same QR code into less space: a dot is 0.125 mm at 203 dpi, about 0.085 mm at 300 dpi, 0.0625 mm at 406 dpi and about 0.042 mm at 600 dpi, where the longest label is 0.55 m. Ask us to set up your label format and print test labels on your roll.

The PM45 price depends on the resolution you choose (203, 300, 406 or 600 dpi), the options you add and the quantity. We can quote the labels and ribbon with it. Start with where the printer sits. On a production or dispatch line that runs all shift, the PM45 gives 450 m ribbons, 213 mm label rolls and four printhead choices. If a customer or regulator rejects unreadable barcodes, the PX940's verifier version grades each code as it prints. At a desk or packing table with lighter volumes, the PC45T desktop printer, at 2.7 kg, fits on a bench.
In many cases, yes. The PM45 has ZSim2 for ZPL-II formats, DPL for Datamax formats and IPL for older Intermec printers, alongside Honeywell's Fingerprint and Direct Protocol. IPL runs on the 203 and 300 dpi printheads only. Emulation can differ in fonts and some commands, so send us one or two of your current labels and the software you print from when you ask for a quote.

The PM45c is Honeywell's compact version: 432 × 181 × 253 mm against 483 × 295 × 284 mm for the PM45. It takes a smaller ribbon, up to 229 m instead of 450 m, and has one USB host port instead of two. Door kits change how large a label roll it covers. Honeywell's 2024 datasheet lists the applicator and industrial interface boards for the PM45 only.
Honeywell lists a CAT4 LTE modem with one micro-SIM slot, and its band list includes the 4G bands used by Jio, Airtel and Vi. That helps at a remote yard, a temporary packing site or a line far from the network rack. Ask us whether the LTE version is available for India before you plan for it; Ethernet 10/100 is built into every PM45.
On any thermal printer the parts that wear are the ones that touch the label: the printhead and the platen roller. Clean the printhead with the cleaning cards Honeywell lists, and keep a spare printhead of your resolution and a platen roller kit if a stopped line costs more than the part.
