Why the Xenon XP 1950g
The Xenon XP 1950g is the corded scanner in Honeywell's Xenon Extreme Performance (XP) series, made for retail checkouts where a slow or missed read holds up the queue.
A 1280 × 800 imager reads codes with a print contrast as low as 15% and tolerates hand movement of up to 4 m/s on a 13 mil UPC at optimal focus. Fewer rescans and fewer codes typed in by hand keep the queue moving.
Honeywell designed the 1950g to read at a distance so the cashier bends less to reach codes on the bottom shelf of a trolley. On the standard-range model, a 20 mil Code 39 label reads from 4 mm to 822 mm in Honeywell's tests.
SR (standard range) suits everyday retail labels. HD (high density) reads smaller, denser codes. UD (ultra high density) is for the smallest codes, down to a 2 mil Code 39 (read at 20-60 mm) or a 4 mil QR code (25-55 mm).
Sealed to IP52 against dust and water, engineered for 50 drops from 1.8 m to concrete and 2,000 tumbles at 0.5 m. That means fewer scanners away for repair and fewer counters waiting for a spare.
Connects over USB, keyboard wedge or RS-232, and over RS-485 for TGCS (IBM) 46XX terminals. The quick start guide sets RS-485 to port 5B by default, with programming codes for terminals on port 9B.
Presentation and streaming presentation modes let the 1950g scan items passed in front of it on a stand. Honeywell offers a ratchet stand, 3-inch and 6-inch rigid stands and a 9-inch flexible stand, in black or Lyric White scanners, with optional vibration feedback.

The 1950g SR can scan the QR code on a supplier's e-invoice, but your billing or ERP software must be able to decode the signed QR. The 1950g SR reads a 20 mil QR code from 0 mm to 438 mm and a 10 mil QR code from 35 mm to 250 mm.
Pick the 1950g HD or UD model by the smallest code on your labels and packs; codes on small packs can be very small. The HD model reads a 10 mil Data Matrix from 12 mm to 211 mm; the UD model reads a 5 mil Data Matrix from 15 mm to 70 mm. Send us a photo of your smallest pack to choose.

Both are corded area imagers with IP52 sealing and 2,000-tumble ratings. The Xenon Ultra 1960 has a larger 1280 × 1080 sensor (the 1950g has 1280 × 800) and a green LED aimer, and Honeywell says it uses the same cable as the 1950g. The 1950g adds RS-485 for TGCS (IBM) 46XX terminals and a UD version for very small codes. Tell us your terminal and smallest label, and we will suggest one.
SR (standard range) suits retail billing and shelf labels and has the longest reach, up to 490 mm on a 13 mil UPC. HD (high density) reads small, dense codes such as electronics labels. UD (ultra high density) is for the tiniest codes, down to a 2 mil Code 39, at short range. If unsure, send a photo of your smallest label.
Honeywell lists RS-485 support for TGCS (IBM) 46XX terminals. The scanner uses port 5B by default, and the quick start guide has codes for port 9B. Ask for the matching IBM 46XX cable in the same quote. Other terminals connect over USB, RS-232 or keyboard wedge.

In USB keyboard mode the 1950g types the scanned data into the field where the cursor is, like a keyboard. USB serial mode emulates a COM port and needs a Honeywell driver on Windows.
