Why the ZT421
The ZT421 is the 6-inch model in Zebra's ZT400 Series, alongside the 4-inch ZT411, and the model Zebra names to follow the ZT420. It prints thermal transfer or direct thermal on a metal frame, and its RFID version encodes UHF tags as it prints.
Prints up to 168 mm wide at up to 305 mm/s (12 ips) at 203 dpi, or 254 mm/s (10 ips) at 300 dpi. It takes media from 51 mm to 178 mm wide, for carton, pallet and drum labels.
The RFID model encodes UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 / ISO 18000-63 tags at a minimum pitch of 16 mm. Zebra's integrated RFID system can be upgraded in the field, and Adaptive Encoding Technology picks the encode settings, so there are no placement charts to follow.
USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet, Bluetooth and two USB Host ports are standard. Two open slots take Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth 4.2, parallel, a second Ethernet card or an applicator interface.
A 4.3-inch colour touch screen with an icon menu sets language, media and connectivity without a PC, and colour-coded alerts show from a distance when the printer is paused or needs attention.
Media rolls up to 203 mm across on a 76 mm core and 450 m ribbons load from the side, along a colour-coded, lit path. The bi-fold door needs less room to open than a single swing door.
It runs ZPL, ZPL II, EPL2 (203 dpi models) and XML-enabled printing, the languages used by ZT420 and older Zebra industrial fleets. ZBI 2.0 is an option for stand-alone applications.

For buyers in India
These are the points buyers in India ask us about the ZT421. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
Confirm the India setting before you order a ZT421 RFID model: Zebra RFID printers ask for an RFID country code at first power-up, with choices that depend on the region the unit was built for. Order tags for India's 865-868 MHz UHF RFID band; the ZT421 RFID model encodes UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 (ISO 18000-63) tags at a pitch as small as 16 mm.
On 4 × 6 inch stock made with the 152.4 mm side across, the ZT421 feeds each label only 101.6 mm long. That works because it prints 168 mm wide on media up to 178 mm. At 305 mm/s (12 ips, 203 dpi), that label plus a 3 mm gap takes about 0.34 s, roughly 10,500 labels an hour of pure print time.
Feed the ZT421 from a UPS or voltage stabiliser where mains runs high. Its auto-detecting supply is rated 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.

Questions buyers ask
The ZT421 price depends on the resolution you choose (203 or 300 dpi), the options you add and the quantity. We can quote the labels and ribbon with it. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.
Yes. Zebra's support page shows the ZT420 was last sold in October 2020 and its Asia-Pacific support ended on 1 December 2025, and Zebra names the ZT421 as its successor. It keeps the 168 mm print width, 450 m ribbons and Zebra's ZPL and EPL languages, so most label formats carry over. Attach a sample of your widest label to your enquiry.
Yes. The RFID version has a fully integrated UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1 / ISO 18000-63 reader/encoder that prints and encodes tags at a minimum pitch of 16 mm. Zebra states the integrated RFID system can be upgraded in the field on both the 4-inch and 6-inch ZT400 models. Zebra's on-metal RFID kit is for the ZT411 only.
Both print 168 mm wide at up to 305 mm/s (12 ips) at 203 dpi and take an RFID encoder. The ZT421 is faster at 300 dpi (254 mm/s against 203 mm/s) and lighter at 18.14 kg. The ZT620 adds Gigabit Ethernet, 1 GB RAM and 2 GB flash, and Zebra builds it for 24/7 use in harsh conditions.
Media from 51 mm to 178 mm wide in tear-off or cutter mode (171 mm for peel or rewind), from 0.058 mm to 0.25 mm thick, on rolls up to 203 mm outside diameter on a 76 mm core. Labels can be as short as 12.7 mm (25.4 mm with the cutter) and up to 991 mm long, or 2,591 mm on continuous media at 203 dpi.
Yes, with an optional card; Wi-Fi is not built in. Standard ports are USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.1 and two USB Host ports. Two open slots take Zebra's Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with Bluetooth 5.3 card or Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) with Bluetooth 4.2 card, as well as parallel, a second Ethernet port or an applicator interface.
Yes. We install the ZT421 at your site, connect it so your ERP, warehouse or billing software prints to it (our own warehouse management system included) and train the people who use it. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
