Why the HR5280-BT

A sealed cordless scanner for counters, stock rooms and shop floors

The HR5280-BT is Newland's cordless 2D handheld scanner with a charging cradle, listed under this name on Newland's India and Asia site. This page listed it as the HR52-BT. It is better sealed (IP54) than the HR3000-BT and HR2000-BT (IP52) and the HR32-BT and HR2081-BT (IP42), and it connects by USB or RS-232, so it fits both a current billing PC and an older serial system.

Sealed against dust and splashes

IP54 sealing and a 1.8 m drop rating for the scanner (1 m for the cradle), in a housing without moving parts. It works from -20 °C to 50 °C, so a drop in a dusty godown or on a loading bay is less likely to stop your work.

Reads dense, damaged and on-screen codes

A 1280 × 800 pixel sensor with a 650 nm laser aimer reads codes from 3 mil, printed on paper or shown on a screen. Newland rates a 13 mil EAN-13 from 50 mm to 555 mm and a 15 mil QR Code from 40 mm to 360 mm.

Bluetooth 5.0 to its cradle

Up to 50 m in direct line of sight in open air. Synchronous, asynchronous and batch modes cover live scanning at the counter and stored scanning away from it.

Keeps scans when out of range

Batch mode stores at least 15,000 Code 128 codes of 20 bytes each and sends them when the scanner is back in range of the cradle.

A full shift on one charge

The 2,400 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated for 12 hours of continuous use at one scan every 6 seconds, and a full charge takes about 4 hours with the power adapter.

USB or RS-232, set up for your software

Newland lists RS-232 and USB interfaces at 5 V DC, its EasySet configuration tool, JPOS and OPOS drivers, and USB-COM and UFCOM drivers. Allmark sets the scanner up on site and connects it to your billing, ERP or warehouse software.

Used in

  • Retail billing and supermarkets
  • Warehousing and godowns
  • Transport, courier and logistics
  • Manufacturing and dispatch
  • Payment and ticket counters
  • Public sector offices

For buyers in India

Using the HR5280-BT in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the HR5280-BT. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

One charge gives about 7,200 scans

If one HR5280-BT has to cover two shifts back to back, ask us about a second scanner and cradle, so a counter is never waiting on the charger. Newland's 12-hour rating assumes one scan every 6 seconds: 12 × 3,600 ÷ 6 = 7,200 scans a charge. A 4-hour charge fits between two shifts, but not inside a short break.

Scans out of range are stored, not lost

A stock count is not lost when the HR5280-BT drops its link: batch mode holds at least 15,000 Code 128 scans. That happens when staff carry the scanner beyond the 50 m open-air range, for example into a back godown or behind metal racks. The memory holds about two charges of work at Newland's rated pace (15,000 ÷ 7,200 ≈ 2.1).

Keep the cradle out of afternoon sun

Place the HR5280-BT cradle away from open shutters, glass fronts and direct sun on summer afternoons, or the battery may not charge in time for the next shift. The scanner works up to 50 °C, but Newland rates battery charging at 0 °C to 45 °C, 5 °C lower.

Connects to serial billing systems by RS-232

A billing PC, weighing system or line controller with a serial input can take scans from the HR5280-BT without replacing the software or the PC, because it lists RS-232 as well as USB. On Newland's India and Asia site the HR3000-BT, HR2000-BT and HR2081-BT list USB as their only interface.

Confirm the adapter plug in your quotation

Newland names no Indian plug for this scanner's adapter, so ask us to confirm the adapter and plug in your quotation. The scanner system runs on 5 V DC ±5%. Newland's accessory guide lists the AD07-DA-WW-6 power adapter (5 V, 1.5 A) with American, European and British plugs, and separate Korean and Australian plugs.

Questions buyers ask

HR5280-BT FAQ

What is the price of the Newland HR5280-BT in India?

The HR5280-BT price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

HR5280-BT or HR32-BT?

Both are current Newland cordless 2D scanners with Bluetooth 5.0 (50 m), a 2,400 mAh battery rated for 12 hours, a 4-hour charge and both USB and RS-232. The HR5280-BT is better sealed (IP54 against IP42), is rated for 1.8 m drops against 1.5 m and reads a 13 mil EAN-13 up to 555 mm against 495 mm. The HR32-BT works up to 60 °C against 50 °C and is 10 g lighter. Choose by where the scanner will work: dust and knocks, or heat.

Will it work with our billing software or an older serial system?

Usually, yes. Newland lists both USB and RS-232 interfaces for the HR5280-BT, so it can connect to a current billing PC by USB or to an older system with a serial port. Newland also offers JPOS and OPOS drivers, USB-COM and UFCOM drivers and its EasySet tool. Name your software when you ask for a quote, and we will set the scanner up for it.

How long does the battery last, and how long does it take to charge?

Newland rates the 2,400 mAh lithium-ion battery for 12 hours of continuous use at one scan every 6 seconds, about 7,200 scans a charge at that pace. A full charge takes about 4 hours with the power adapter. The battery charges only between 0 °C and 45 °C, so keep the cradle out of direct sun.

What happens if staff walk out of Bluetooth range?

In batch mode the HR5280-BT keeps reading. It stores at least 15,000 Code 128 codes of 20 bytes each and uploads them once it is back within range of the cradle. Newland quotes up to 50 m in open air; in a store with metal racks and walls, plan on less and place the cradle near the busiest scanning area.

Can it read QR codes shown on a customer's phone?

Yes. Newland states that the HR5280-BT reads codes printed on paper or displayed on a screen, and its list includes QR Code, Micro QR Code, Data Matrix and PDF417. It sends the code text to your software; what happens next, such as looking up an order or a ticket, is done by that software.

Which postal barcodes does it read?

Newland lists USPS Postnet, USPS Intelligent Mail, Royal Mail, KIX Post and Australian Postal codes. India Post is not named in that list. If your parcels carry a postal code, send us a photo of a sample label with your enquiry so we can confirm the code type with you before you order.

Can Allmark install the HR5280-BT and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the HR5280-BT at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
