Why the HR2081-BT
The HR2081-BT is Newland's cordless version of the HR2081 2D handheld scanner. It sends scans over Bluetooth 5.0 to a small USB dongle plugged into the PC or POS, so there is no cradle to find space for, and it charges from a USB cable. Newland also sells a corded HR2081 with USB and RS-232 in the same 145 × 101 × 68 mm body.
Newland states that the HR2081-BT reads high-density and damaged codes printed on paper or shown on a screen. It lists EAN-13, UPC, GS1-128, GS1 DataBar, ITF-14 and Code 128, plus QR Code, Micro QR, Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec, from 3 mil.
By default, Newland's user guide sets the scanner to work through Newland's DH-R USB Bluetooth dongle as a keyboard, so scans type into the field where the cursor is. The dongle can also run as a virtual COM port or HID-POS. The scanner can instead pair directly with a host as a Bluetooth keyboard.
Bluetooth 5.0 reaches up to 50 m in direct line of sight in open air. In automatic batch mode the scanner stores scans when it is out of range, 15,000 or more Code 128 codes of 20 bytes each, and sends them when it is back in range.
The 2,400 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated for 12 hours of continuous use at one scan every 6 seconds and takes about 5.5 hours to charge over USB at 5 V. It switches itself off after 5 minutes idle by default, which you can change from 10 to 60 minutes or turn off.
Newland lists Passport OCR, for reading the printed machine-readable text on a passport. It is off by default and is switched on by scanning one programming barcode from the user guide. That helps at hotel desks, travel counters and public-service counters that record ID details.
At 167 g, the HR2081-BT is 42 g lighter than the HR2000-BT. It has IP42 sealing, a 1.5 m drop rating and no moving parts, and works from -20 °C to 60 °C. Beep, LED and vibration confirm each good read.

The HR2081-BT reads the codes on products and cartons. Newland rates it to read a 13 mil EAN-13 from 50 mm to 260 mm and a 10 mil Data Matrix from 35 mm to 125 mm. It lists EAN-13 for GS1 India's 890-prefix product codes, ITF-14 for cartons, and QR Code, Data Matrix and GS1-128.
The HR2081-BT can pass the text of a UPI QR shown on a phone to your software, for example to check an order or payee QR. Newland lists mobile payment among its uses and states that it reads codes displayed on screens. Many UPI QRs are shown on a phone screen rather than printed. The payment itself is always made in the customer's UPI app, not by the scanner.
One HR2081-BT charge covers an 8-hour shift with room to spare; for two back-to-back shifts at that pace, plan a second scanner. Newland rates the battery for 12 hours at one scan every 6 seconds: 12 × 3,600 ÷ 6 = 7,200 scans a charge. An 8-hour shift at that pace takes 8 × 3,600 ÷ 6 = 4,800 scans. A full charge takes about 5.5 hours. Out of range, batch mode holds 15,000 or more Code 128 scans, about twice what one charge produces at that pace.
Keep the HR2081-BT's charging point and PC away from shutters, glass fronts and direct sun, because Newland rates battery charging at 0 °C to 45 °C. The scanner itself scans up to 60 °C. IP42 is a lighter seal than the IP52 of the HR2000-BT, so keep the scanner under cover at open loading bays and away from rain.

The HR2000-BT has double the stated range (100 m against 50 m), a replaceable 2,600 mAh battery rated for 16 hours against 12, IP52 sealing and a charging cradle. The HR2081-BT is 42 g lighter at 167 g, uses a USB dongle instead of a cradle, adds passport OCR and works up to 60 °C.
Yes. Newland's India and Asia site lists a corded HR2081 with USB and RS-232, in the same 145 × 101 × 68 mm body. It weighs 111 g, has a 1.2 m drop rating and pitch and skew angles of ±55°, and reads the same codes at the same distances, without passport OCR. Newland lists the HR2081 as the replacement for its earlier HR22. Ask us for either version in your quotation.

Scans are not lost. Newland gives up to 50 m in open air; shelving, walls and metal racks shorten it. Set the HR2081-BT to automatic batch mode and it stores 15,000 or more Code 128 codes (20 bytes each) while out of range and sends them when the link returns. In manual batch mode it keeps everything until a staff member scans the 'transmit' barcode, which suits a stock count you want to upload in one go.
