Why the DS8108
The DS8108 is the corded model of Zebra's DS8100 Series; the cordless version is the DS8178. Zebra lists the newer DS8208 as replacing the DS8108, but both DS8100 models are still available in India and Zebra has not published a last-sale date for them.
Zebra's PRZM imaging and a 1,280 × 960 sensor read dense, poorly printed, crinkled, faded, dirty or damaged barcodes, and codes on dimly lit phone screens.
Zebra gives a 13 mil UPC range of 0 to 61 cm, so a cashier can scan items in a customer's trolley without leaving the counter.
Zebra rates the DS8108 for Code 39 and Code 128 down to 3 mil, PDF417 down to 5 mil, and QR and Data Matrix down to 6 mil.
Label Parse+ reads GS1 label data such as expiry date and lot number in one scan, and Multi-Code Data Formatting sends several barcodes from one scan in the order your software expects.
Zebra lists USB, RS232, keyboard wedge and IBM 46XX over RS485, with over 90 international keyboard layouts.
Sealed to IP52 and designed for multiple 1.8 m drops to concrete and 2,000 tumbles at 0.5 m. It works from 0 °C to 50 °C.

The DS8100 Series combines the power of an 800 MHz microprocessor, a 1,280 × 960 sensor and Zebra's exclusive PRZM Intelligent Imaging technology. With this unique combination of hardware and advanced algorithms, the DS8100 Series instantly captures the most problematic barcodes - including dense, poorly printed, crinkled, faded, distorted, dirty or damaged, as well as electronic barcodes on dimly lit displays.
With Label Parse+, the DS8100 Series can instantly capture and parse GS1 label barcode data on items, enabling associates to easily capture a wealth of data, including expiration dates and lot number/ manufacturing location.
With Multi-Code Data Formatting (MDF), the DS8100 Series can capture multiple barcodes with a single scan and transmit only the barcodes you need, in the order your application expects.
